Grade 10 – Maths
About Course
The CBSE Grade 10 Mathematics course aims to build upon the concepts learned in previous years and provide a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and their applications. The course covers a wide range of topics such as real numbers, polynomials, pair of linear equations in two variables, quadratic equations, arithmetic progression, triangles, coordinate geometry, introduction to trigonometry, some applications of trigonometry, circles, areas related to circles, surface areas, volumes, statistics and probability.
What will students learn?
- Understanding of real numbers, including irrational numbers and their properties.
- Concept of polynomials, factorisation of polynomials and algebraic identities.
- Pair of linear equations in two variables and their applications in real-life situations.
- Quadratic equations and their solutions using factorisation and formula.
- Arithmetic Progressions and their applications.
- Triangles and their properties, congruence, similarity and trigonometric ratios.
- Coordinate geometry, distance formula and section formula.
- Introduction to trigonometry, trigonometric ratios and their applications.
- Circles and their properties, chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords and arcs.
- Areas related to circles, perimeter and area of sector and segment of a circle.
- Surface areas and volumes of various shapes and their real-life applications.
- Representation of data in graphical form, measures of central tendency and dispersion.
- Basic concepts of probability, events, sample space and related concepts.
Additionally, the course will include the following important features:
- Challenger assignments designed to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Mind-maps to help students visualise complex concepts and their interrelationships.
- Chapter summaries to provide an overview of the key concepts covered in each chapter.
- Gamified content to make learning fun and engaging.
- Real-life examples to help students understand the practical applications of mathematical concepts
For example, the teacher will implement a gamified lesson plan that simulates a situation where students are navigators on a ship in the middle of the ocean. The ship is traveling at a certain speed and direction, and the students need to calculate the angle of elevation of a lighthouse they see in the distance in order to determine their location. They will need to use the trigonometric ratios they learned in the chapter, such as sine, cosine, and tangent, to solve this problem. The teacher will also provide real-life examples where trigonometry is used, such as in architecture, construction, and astronomy. As a challenger assignment, the teacher could ask students to research and present a case study of a real-life application of trigonometry, such as the use of trigonometric functions in satellite communication.
By enrolling in this course, students will not only strengthen their mathematical knowledge but also enhance their problem-solving abilities and analytical skills that can be applied in real-world scenarios. Through practical examples and interactive activities, students will be able to build a strong foundation in mathematics, setting them up for future academic and personal success.
